When the chiropractor frees the nervous system from spinal stress, the healing power of the body is unleashed, and your child's body functions more efficiently.

Millions of parents are taking their children to chiropractors every year. The main reasons they are brought are for colds, sore throats, ear infections, fever, asthma, tonsillitis, bed-wetting and pain.

Although chiropractic does not treat disease it does focus on increasing the function of the body’s nervous system to help improve proper functioning of the nervous system. When the chiropractor frees the nervous system from spinal stress, the healing power of the body is unleashed.

The immune system functions more efficiently, resistance to disease increases, and your child’s body functions more efficiently. Today parents are more hesitant to merely mask symptoms with drugs and are worried about side effects. Their desire to achieve a state of true health has led parents to seek health care options which support their children’s own natural ability to heal.

For more specific questions as to how chiropractic can benefit your child, contact us right away.

Bedwetting, or enuresis ( the involuntary passage of urine), is a poorly understood problem that continues after the child reaches five years of age. Some nocturnal bed-wetting is related to maturation, espeially in boys.

Commonly, bedwetting is blamed on immature sleeping patterns or small urinery bladder capacity. One of the common known facts involved in nocturnal enuresis is categorized as bladder inneruation disorder.

This is in the area where chiropratic can help. Chiropractic studies have shown that bed-wetting can be resolved when vertebral subluxations are present.
Are you in need of a chiropractor? Dr. David Tuchinsky has been a chiropractor for over 20 years and is also a popular author and lecturer on chiropractic treatments. He has successfully treated patients with all types of conditions, from newborns to the elderly, from the couch potato to the professional athlete.

He is dedicated to getting to the root of your particular problem and prescribing the most effective and appropriate course of care, to get you back to optimum health in the shortest period of time.

To help identify the cause of your pain, Dr. Tuchinsky will discuss your symptoms, any previous injuries, your family health history, and your lifestyle, including recreational and work-related physical activities, including sleep positions, posture, and levels of stress.

He will then perform the necessary physical, orthopaedic, and neurological tests that can help reveal the condition of your neck or spine. Static and motion palpation tests check for stiffness, pain, muscle spasm, and restricted range of motion.

As “blueprints” of your spine, x-rays can reveal misaligned vertebrae, arthritis, fractures, or other problems. Additional tests such as MRI’s , CAT Scans, electrodiagnostic studies may be recommended if necessary. Based on the examination findings, Dr. Tuchinsky will recommend a course of treatment customized to your particular condition.

Weston Chiropractor Headache Relief

Some patients come to us and report severe headaches. An unfortunate thing to many headache sufferers is the versatility of headaches. There are a wide variety of causes for headaches. Such things as muscular tension, sinus congestion and eyestrain, as well as a number of other underlying causes can lead to reoccurring headache.

The pain associated with headaches can begin around the eyes, in the back of the head, behind the eyes, or along the sides or top of the head. One commonality of all headaches is the pain they cause, yet the degree of pain can vary as well – from a dull pain to a more intensified throbbing or nauseating pain.

In understanding headaches, it is important to keep in mind some common misconceptions about them. One such misconception is that some types of headaches are more painful or troubling than others. For example, many people erroneously refer to any severe headaches as being a migraine. In fact, almost any type of headache can bring about a similarly severe pain. Given the versatility of headaches, it is often troubling for a headache sufferer to correctly identify the type of headache they have.

Headaches can either be brought on independently, in which case they are considered “primary” headaches, or as a side effect of another condition, which are referred to as “secondary”. The most commonly treated headaches in chiropractic offices are primary headaches such as: tension headaches, migraine headaches, and cervicogenic headaches. Tension headaches are usually caused from stress factors, migraine headaches are vascular headaches, and cervicogenic headaches are caused by pain originating in the neck region.

St. Augustine Chiropractor

Much research attests to the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment for primary headaches. Accordingly, many patients have found a more natural, and long-term relief from headaches through chiropractic treatments. Call Dr. Tuchinsky at 954-895-7896.

One of the top reasons people see a chiropractor is for back pain. Around 22 million Americans visit chiropractors annually and 35% of these individuals seek treatment for back pain.

One of the top reasons people see a chiropractor is for back pain. Around 22 million Americans visit chiropractors annually and 35% of these individuals seek treatment for back pain. Back pain may be the result of accidents, muscle strains, or sports injuries.

In particular, lower back pain is particularly common due to the vulnerability and dysfunction associated with the major joints, muscles and nerves in the area, which leads to a sore and very painful lower back. Such pain may be treated by a chiropractor through spinal manipulation and/or mobilization.

A Look at (Lower) Back Pain

As mentioned, back pain can be the result of many different causes. Years of improper back treatment, such as heavy lifting or poor posture, or a general lack of exercise, may result in a back that is weaker and therefore more prone to injury.

Once the lower back reaches the point of pain in the lower back, the chances of a recurring episode of back pain is increased if left untreated. This is why even if experiencing an acute episode of back pain, it is best to get treated at the first signs of back pain.

Lower back pain in particular can be the result of very serious problems. If you are currently experiencing any of the following symptoms, it is time to get help from a doctor of chiropractic:

General stiffness in the morning

Inability or difficulty to walk, stand or sit for any period of time

Pain from the buttock, thigh, hip, knee or foot

Back or leg pain associated with coughing or sneezing

Leg pain such as weakness, numbness and/or tingling

A common type of back pain is the result of a back sprain (facet syndrome), which is usually caused as a result of a sudden movement or injury. Symptoms of the pain will usually worsen the more the back has gone with neglect usually resulting in pain, stiffness and difficulty moving. Another type of pain is commonly called a muscle pull, but is better known as sacroiliac syndrome, which is also a common result of sudden movement or injury. This type of pain can also be due to poor posture or from previous injuries to the back that have been left untreated. This pain can make it extremely painful in the hip area to move or change positions.

Often misdiagnosed as a back sprain or muscle pull, is another common condition known as herniated or slipped discs. Discs are what separate the 24 vertebrae of the spine from one another, consisting of a tough outer layer with a softer, more cushion-like interior, to absorb shock and sprains as the body undergoes various movements and places stress on the spine. Over time, these discs are subject to degeneration, injury and disease. The pain caused by a herniated, or protruding, bulging, slipped, prolapsed, degenerated, or ruptured disc, is the result of the disc no longer in its normal condition and affecting nerves in the spinal column. Disc herniation usually affects the lower back (lumbar spine).

Using Chiropractic to Treat Lower Back Pain

There is a large consensus regarding the benefits of chiropractic care of lower back injuries. Unless severe injury or impairment from nerves, chiropractic care may be the most beneficial as well as least invasive treatment for lower back pain. Doctors of Chiropractic are able to treat conditions relating to lower back pain through “hands-on” chiropractic care as well as other methods, including:

Spinal manipulation

Mobilization

Physical therapy modalities

Exercises

Pelvic stabilization

Ergonomics

Patient education / awareness

Headaches are a common source of recurring pain in many people. To find a more natural, direct, and holistic solution to the recurrence of headaches, many are beginning to turn to chiropractic.

Headaches are a common source of recurring pain in many people. In fact, nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches.

While there are a plethora of prescription and over-the-counter medicines out there to help with headache pain, they merely mask the pain without tending to the cause of the pain or its recurrence. Furthermore, many do not realize the many side effects that come along with headache medications – especially after long-term usage.

To find a more natural, direct, and holistic solution to the recurrence of headaches, many are beginning to turn to chiropractic.

A Look at Headaches

An unfortunate thing to many headache sufferers is the versatility of headaches. There are a wide variety of causes for headaches. Such things as muscular tension, sinus congestion and eyestrain, as well as a number of other underlying causes can lead to reoccurring headache.

The pain associated with headaches can begin around the eyes, in the back of the head, behind the eyes, or along the sides or top of the head.
Much research attests to the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment for primary headaches. Accordingly, many patients have found a more natural, and long-term relief from headaches through chiropractic treatments.

Using Chiropractic to Treat Headaches

In general terms, essential practices of chiropractic are used to treat headaches. Such techniques include spinal manipulation, which improves spinal alignment, diminishes nerve irritation, relaxes the tension in muscles as well as improves vascular flow. This is the type of treatment used for tension headaches, which are caused by muscular tension and contraction of shoulder, head, and neck muscles.

There are other ways that chiropractic treatment can diminish or eliminate the reoccurrence of headaches, as well. Trigger point therapy, massage therapy, stretching, and relaxation techniques have all had great results in patients suffering with chronic headaches.

If suffering from headaches is interfering with your life, this is a great treatment that doesn’t depend on medication and instead, tends to the root of the cause. Chiropractic treatment provides a holistic, widespread treatment plan to patients suffering from chronic headaches. The results are patients now being able to enjoy a headache-free life.

Spinal decompression is used to relieve pressure on pinched nerves of the spinal column. Here is an overview of both surgical and non-surgical spinal decompression methods.

Spinal decompression is used to relieve pressure on pinched nerves of the spinal column (also referred to as neural impingement). This form of decompression can be achieved both through a surgical and non-surgical procedure, and is used to treat various conditions such as:

Chronic back pain

Sciatica

Disc bulges

Dics herniation

Spinal stenosis

Isthmic and degenerative spondylolisthesis

Let’s look at a brief overview of both surgical and non-surgical spinal decompression!

Surgical spinal decompression

There are two common procedures associated with surgical spinal decompression, microdecompression (microdisectomy) and laminectomy (open decompression). Microdisectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure whereby a portion of a herniated nucleus pulpolsus is removed. The removal is performed by way of a surgical instrument while using a microscope or loupe for magnification. A laminectomy is a more invasive surgical procedure whereby a small portion of the arch of the vertebrae is removed from the spine to alleviate pressure on the pinched nerve. Usually people will elect to undergo this procedure when they have not been able to relieve their back pain through more conservative options.

Non-surgical spinal decompression

This form of spinal decompression is usually achieved by using a mechanical traction device applied through an on-board computer. The computer will control the force and angle of the disc distraction, which in turn reduces the body’s natural propensity to resist external force or generate muscle spasms. This method provides enhanced control and allows non-surgical spinal decompression tables to apply a traction force that reduces intradiscal pressure to the discs of the spinal column.

The fact is, most neck and back pain is caused by degenerative discs, bulging discs and herniated discs. These issues cam translate to leg cramps, back pain, sciatica, arm pain, and many other symptoms. The issue has always been to find a way of treating the discs without a major, invasive surgery. Before the introduction of spinal decompression therapy, there wasn’t a step between treatments such as physical therapy, chiropractic care, surgery and other non invasive options.

Discs don’t have an efficient blood supply, unlike other parts of your body, so when damage occurs, the healing process is difficult. These discs get their nutrition from bones nearby, through a pumping motion that increases when you move. However, once a disc is torn or damaged, it loses the ability to maintain hydration, and can become brittle and dry. This of course leads to more damage, inflammation, and ultimately pain.

If you think that you have damaged a disc, or are experiencing one of the symptoms mentioned above, consult with a chiropractor to see if spinal decompression can help.

Here we explain the differences between the treatment provided by a chiropractor and a physical therapist.

Have you ever wondered about the difference between a chiropractor and a physical therapist? This is a very fair question which we intend to answer! There are many instances in which you would need to see a physical therapist or a chiropractor, such as:

You experience dizziness and are prone to falling

If you have back pain

If you have experienced a stroke

If you have cerebral palsy

First, let’s define what a physical therapist and a chiropractor do to better understand the difference.

According to the American Physical Therapy Association, a physical therapist should:

Examine individuals with functional limitations, physical impairments, disabilities or other health related conditions. Their purpose is to determine a diagnosis, prognosis, and intervention.

Alleviate impairment and functional limitation by designing, implementing, and modifying therapeutic interventions.

Prevent injury, impairment, functional limitation, and disability, including the promotion and maintenance of fitness, health, and quality of life in people of all ages.

Engage in consultation, education, and research.

According to the American Chiropractic Association, chiropractic is defined as:

A drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling. The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.”

At the end of the day, everyone just wants to live pain free. However, many aspects of life generate physical impacts on the body, from working and driving, to studying and diet. These activities can develop into minor aches and pains, and even major injuries and permanent degeneration. In order to treat these symptoms and address the causes, traditional physical exams combined with chiropractic care can help to diagnose and monitor the progress of an individual.

Scoliosis is a very serious medical condition in which someone’s spine develops an abnormal curve from side to side. When viewed through x-rays from the back, the spine of a person who has scoliosis appears in the shape of an S or a C as opposed to a straight line. Scoliosis can be classified in 3 ways:

Congenital – caused by vertebral anomalies and present at birth

Idiopathic – while the cause is unknown, can be classified by when it occurred (juvenile, infantile, adolescent, or adult)

Neuromuscular – this occurs when the scoliosis develops as a symptom of another condition like spinal muscular atrophy, cerebral palsy, physical therapy or spinal bifida

All in all, scoliosis affects nearly 7 million people in the U.S. alone!

Sings and Symptoms of Scoliosis

Once an individual reaches “skeletal maturity”, they are less likely to have a worsening case of scoliosis. However, sever cases can put pressure on the heart, restrictphysical activity and even diminish lung capacity. Some of the common signs of scoliosis include:

Uneven leg length or hips

Uneven musculature on one side of the spine

A prominent shoulder blade or rib, usually caused by the rotation of the ribcage (in thoracic scoliosis)

Slow nerve action

In females, asymmetric location or size of the breast

Chiropractic care can help

A chiropractor will examine your overall health, checking your spine as well as other aspects of your lifestyle. In order to identify the cause of the problem, a chiropractor will review any previous injuries, recreational or work related activities, and your family’s history of health issues. They will also run orthopedic, palpitation, neurological tests and x-rays to determine how serious the problem is.

There are also some scoliosis exams such as the Adam’s Forward Bending Test, which has
been adopted in most schools. It requires the person to bend at the waist as someone views
the spinal alignment. If the administrator recognizes something abnormal, you will usually be referred to a chiropractor. At this point, your chiropractor will measure the length of your legs to better understand the unevenness. Sometimes, a range of motion test will also be performed to check the mobility at the waist. If your chiropractor determines that there is a serious issue, they might recommend you to a specialist for specific, scoliosis treatment.

When dealing with scoliosis, regular visits to your chiropractor are imperative to monitoring the progression of this condition. Scoliosis is a very serious condition, and can be treated in many different ways in order to restore normal functionality and alleviate pain. Should you have any questions about scoliosis, pain or physical limitations, consult your chiropractor today!

Chiropractors often see patients for a variety of reasons, one being the symptoms of sciatica. Sciatica is usually characterized by a sharp pain that extends from the lower back or buttock, all the way down to the toes.

While not a consistent pain, sciatic nerve pain can vary in both frequency and intensity, and is sometimes described as an electrical shock. Other related sensations include numbness, burning or tingling. The pain can last for just a few days, or for a period of weeks, and often subsides for a few hours at a time.

Waiting too long

A common issue with sciatica is when people wait too long to be treated. Waiting too long can cause serious damage, and it is extremely important that you contact a professional as soon as you recognize the symptoms. In some cases, a chiropractor can identify the source of the nerve blockage and use adjustments to correct any spinal misalignment. It is also important to recognize that pain medication is only a temporary mask, and that proper treatment should be sought out, especially if you wish to avoid surgery.

Spinal Manipulation (Chiropractic Adjustments)

Chiropractic care is rooted in spinal adjustments. The method of spinal manipulation helps to free restricted movement of the spine, and aids in restoring misaligned vertebral bodies to their proper position. These adjustments can also help to reduce nerve irritability which is the cause of inflammation, pain, muscle spasms and other symptoms of sciatica. Please note that spinal manipulation has been proven to be safe and effective, and is not painful.

Causes of Sciatica

There are a wide variety of causes of sciatica. Most often, sciatica is caused by the result of accumulated, small traumas. In this case, the sciatica may appear suddenly, or even gradually, and is usually first noticed while slouching or walking. This is especially the case in people who have a history of lower back issues. It can also come from a single, sudden trauma such as strenuous pulling or pushing, lifting something too heavy, or even a violent sneeze.

Getting the Proper Diagnosis

As we mentioned, there are many things that can cause sciatica. This is why the chiropractors first step is to conduct an analysis to determine what is causing a patient’s sciatica. Common steps are to review medical history and conduct a physical and neurological exam.

Diagnostic tests can also help indicate the root cause. These tests can include MRIs, an Xray, CT Scan, and others. If you have lower back pain, or think that you may have symptoms of sciatica, please contact our office today.
